1- Read the relevant reading/s identified in the essay topic. (see additional files)
2- These readings provided under each topic are compulsory and the essay must demonstrate a good understanding of them.
3- Make a plan with key points that would help you to structure the essay.
4- Your starting point should be the ideas presented in the core reading. You can build on these arguments and expand on them with additional reading. Alternatively, you can find sources to challenge, contrast or show alternative positions in relation to the key arguments presented in the core reading/s.
5- Critical views are all welcome. You do not need to agree with these core readings.
6- You must research and find additional reading material to develop your essay. The references of the core reading can be a starting point.
7- Identify a number of journal papers, books and other sources. Read and take notes along with your plan.
8- Make sure you present the essay with a clear introduction, a main body and a conclusion.
9- You can use figures and images if necessary. Others can be in the Appendix but only if they are essential.
11- Use plain, jargon free English. Cite your sources clearly and provide a list of references. All must be in an academic format.
12- Check plagiarism issues in the course outline.
13- Total word limit is 3,000 words (+- 200 words) excluding references.
14- The word count should be provided at the end of your essay along with references.

Assessment of the Essay

1- Good understanding and analysis of the topic with core readings (20%)
2- Content and structure of the analysis (20%)
3- Degree of research and the use of relevant literature (20%)
4- Critical insight, rigour and a good conclusion (20%)
5- Writing style, language, accurate referencing and format (20%)
